One final potential concern for recommenders offering critique is access rights. Unlike other national scholarships, the Gates Cambridge asks the recommender rather than the student to make a choice about access rights. Finalists will be invited to interview with a panel of four people, usually consisting of a representative of the Trust, two academics and a former Gates Cambridge scholar. We are happy to arrange mock-interviews for Gates Finalists. Please be in touch regarding your progress in the competition.

Finalists will be notified of the competition's outcome in early February, 2017.

Who applies nationwide?
In each application year, approximately 90 awards are distributed, and of these, approximately 40 are granted to US citizens applying to the Trust. Approximately 800 applications are received from American students, 100 of whom are named as Finalists and invited to interview.

Congratulations to Sophie Rosenberg '10, who has earned a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to suppor her work toward a Ph.D. in politics and international studies at the University of Cambridge. Her research interests include the politics of public international law, transitional justice and the International Criminal Court. Sophie is the first Gates Cambridge Scholar at Brandesi since Wendi Adelson '01, who studied International Relations at Cambridge.
