When you write an essay, you should know what you write about. Thus, you ought to collect enough material for a substantive discussion. You can find information in the library and on the Internet. Read articles, encyclopedias and books from famous authors and share your ideas with the readers in written form. You should remember the proper structure of an average essay. An essay is a logical text that consists of three major parts â introduction, body and conclusion. The simplest 5-paragraph essay and the most complex 70-paragraph texts are written according to this basic structure. Every essay has its introduction, body and conclusion. Learn how to organize every section effectively.
Maya Angelou narrates her account in a conversational tone. She uses the past tense which tells her audience "it's over" for her. Her words are free from severity. They encourage the reader to see hope in the midst of sadness. Instead of trying to elicit a particular emotional response, Angelou invites her audience to share in her thoughts and feelings. For instance, having given an account of the rape, she writes, "I thought I had died--I woke up in a white-walled world, and it had to be heaven." The reader feels a connection with her pain, yet realizes redemption lies close at hand. Whereas Walker tells how she was confronted by her parents, Angelou explains,"she [mother] picked me up in her arms and the terror abated for a while." There is no impression of combativeness. There is only tenderness and care. Once again, she invites the reader in. Walker wants the reader to feel for her; Angelou wants her audience to feel with her. They achieve their objectives by directing the reader's attention to specific emotions.
Many inexperienced students do not understand the value of a good hook and introduction. Undoubtedly, this section is vital for your essay. You introduce your topic to the reader and explain the choice and the importance of this topic for you and for your field of study. The right introduction conveys the relevance of the problem, its importance, the methodology, the state of research, etc. However, its primary duty is to attract the readerâs attention to your essay. Find several compelling or unexpected facts related to your topic and place these before your thesis statement. Make the reader think about your problem from another perspective. Explain that new perspective. Or, try to find a compelling quotation from a famous person that fits the topic of your essay. It will improve your essay considerably. It will make you sound credible.
The fifth paragraph is the summary paragraph. It is important to restate the thesis and three supporting ideas in an original and powerful way as this is the last chance the writer has to convince the reader of the validity of the information presented.
To begin your essay, brainstorm using the following questions:
1Stephen King, creator of such stories as Carrie and Pet Sematary, stated that the Edgar Allan Poe stories he read as a child gave him the inspiration and instruction he needed to become the writer that he is. 2Poe, as does Stephen King, fills the reader's imagination with the images that he wishes the reader to see, hear, and feel. 3His use of vivid, concrete visual imagery to present both static and dynamic settings and to describe people is part of his technique. 4Poe's short story "The Tell-Tale Heart" is a story about a young man who kills an old man who cares for him, dismembers the corpse, then goes mad when he thinks he hears the old man's heart beating beneath the floor boards under his feet as he sits and discusses the old man's absence with the police. 5In "The Tell-Tale Heart," a careful reader can observe Poe's skillful manipulation of the senses.

Angelou's anger is subtle and short-lived. Though I was incensed by what happened to her, she quietly insisted that I leave it behind. She concentrated less on her anger and more on the warmth and support of her family.
